Artist Statement

Lisa’s work is a mashup of offbeat and representational. Whether it’s birds wearing jewelry, people with green faces, or flowers in polka dot teacups, the pieces will always be playful. She paints for people who like colorful and uplifting art that feels good. Living with cancer the past decade taught her having fun is important, so creating joy on a canvas keeps the fun activated.

The Muppet Show and Sesame Street were influential in Lisa’s childhood so as a young adult she was naturally drawn to the bold color and simplified forms in contemporary American Folk Art. Many years later, as she creates herself, she recognizes some of these influences in her own work.

Lisa uses layers of acrylic paint, hand-painted papers, and pre-loved fabric to create energetic and textured pieces. Her current work is mostly inspired by pop culture, the quirky nature of animals, and the state of Florida – what wacky and wonderful subjects they are!

A top tier goal of Lisa’s is leaving the world a bit more beautiful than she found it, so creating art aligns perfectly with this mission. Café Tropicana is her largest collection to date, in numbers and canvas size. It’s full of florals and fun while symbolizing hope, healing, and a visual escape. Working larger and creating abstract florals have been ongoing desires, so you’ll continue seeing pieces like this in her future collections.
